Stewardship

The rich man is not the one who has much, but the one who gives much. For what he gives away remains his forever.”   St. John Chrysostom

STEWARDSHIP CORNER

October 13, 2014

Dear St. Catherine Parishioners,

Our theme for our 2014 Stewardship Campaign is “The Gifts of the Magi”. The Magi journeyed far, to bring the Christ child precious gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.  Gold, representing Him as King, frankincense representing Him as Priest and myrrh representing Him as the Messiah, an offering to the perfect sacrifice of His life for us.  As the Magi brought their gifts to Christ, may we too, offer our gifts, the special gifts he has blessed us with, to Him.

Our Stewardship Committee has planned this campaign to begin on Sunday, October 13th and conclude on Sunday, November 24th, the eve of the Feast of St. Catherine, the patroness of our Parish. Our thematic icon portrays the Magi bearing gifts. May our Stewardship commitment of time, talent and treasures be the gifts that we bear.

Our 2014 Stewardship Campaign will unfold in a progressive manner, as it did last year, encouraging us as a parish to make personal connections within our geographic neighborhoods and also to pray for one another as neighbors.

The Committee has constructed 33 “Gift Packages” (one for each of our Lord’s years on this earth), and a captain has been assigned to steward each of these “Gifts” though one of these neighborhoods of our Parish.  Each package contains 10-14 Stewardship Packets for stewards or families in that neighborhood.

We will begin the journey, with a blessing of the “Gifts” and their captains on Sunday, October 13, following Divine Liturgy. The captain then will begin the journey through his/her neighborhood by first prayerfully pledging of his/her time, talents and treasures, placing their completed pledge in the “Gift” package and then passing it on to the next family listed in the neighborhood. Each family will have 2 or 3 days to consider and complete their pledge and then deliver it in person to the next family. The process will continue for 42 days within each neighborhood travelling from family to family. The captain will then collect the package and all 33 Captains will then bring their “Gifts” to the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, November 24,  with a prayer of celebration and Thanksgiving.

We are grateful to the Stewardship Committee, the Area Captains, Neighborhood Captains and our staff for their commitment and faithful work in this campaign. Please do your best to join them in a faithful Stewardship commitment of time, talents and treasures again in 2014, to our Lord and His Parish of Saint Catherine.

With our Lord’s blessings,
